The Mineralium expedition
The current main game is one mine descent. The Play button starts or restores that run. Board depth, collected essence and awarded chest contents describe its progress.
The Workshop is a separate screen for resources, crafting and equipment. The first copy of an artifact comes from a chest. Equipment and materials are part of progression, not a replacement for board play.
Legacy run versions remain readable for saved games and replays. Their rules do not define a new Mineralium run.
